MARY KINDER

Mary Kinder was the girlfriend of Harry Pierpont. While Mary was
married when Harry met her, this fact did not stop Mary from
joining Harry and his Terror Gang on their infamous crime spree of
1933- 1934. Mary was married to Dale Kinder, the son of an
Indianapolis Police Officer. Dale was also an outlaw and was
arrested for robbing local grocery stores and was carted off to prison.
Dale was in prison with Harry Pierpont and Mary's brother, Earl.
Mary met Harry through her brother, Earl Northern, who was a one time associate of Harry's and had joined Harry on his early bank robbing spree. It is believed that Earl was slated to escape with the other inmates during the Michigan City escape, however, he was too ill to join the others during the escape. Earl diied in prison in 1936 from his continued illness, tuberculosis.
Mary had other siblings associated with the Terror Gang besides her brother Earl. Her brother Charles was another Pierpont associate who was a member of Harry's early gang of Bank Robbers (1924-1925). In addition, Mary's sister Margaret was married to William Behrens who was also a member of the early Pierpont Gang. Mary came from a large family, with at least nine brothers and sisters.
Mary attempted to marry Pierpont shortly before his execution, but this request was denied by the Ohio State Prison Warden.
After Harry's arrest, Mary spent a bit of time doing speeches and writing articles regarding her time with the Gang. Mary also did speeches at the Worlds Fair in 1934, until the Federal Government pressured the fair to cancel her shows. Mary's fame soon diminished.
Later in life, Mary remarried to a gentleman by the name of Wendell Grimsley.
Mary passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1981. Mary died from emphysema and heart disease. She was also known to battle alcoholism.
